India vs Sri Lanka on September 17
India will be up against Sri Lanka in the Final of the Asia Cup 2023 at the R Premdasa Stadium in Colombo on September 17. India played three games in the Super Four stage where they were able to win two and finished at the top of the table. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, had a similar record but due to a poorer net run rate finished in the second position. India had squared off against Bangladesh in their last match, where India won the toss and elected to bowl. The match being a dead rubber, both these teams decided to experiment and test their bench strength. With good knocks from Shakib, Hridoy, and Nasum, Bangladesh posted a strong total of 265 runs. India did not start well, losing their opener and captain right in the first over. Shubhman’s and Axar’s wickets proved to be the match-defining difference between the two teams as Bangladesh won the match by just six runs. Sri Lanka had played against Pakistan in their last match where Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat. Pakistan lost a wicket early but had a fantastic second-wicket partnership as well. Half-centuries from Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Rizwan propelled Pakistan towards a better position than they were in and garnered a total of 252 runs on the board. Sri Lanka were brilliant right from the start and it seemed an easy win for Sri Lanka but the twists were left for the end. They kept losing wickets towards the end but somehow were able to keep their calm and won the match by just two wickets.
Best economical pick – Star Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav could be the best bowler for India in the Asia Cup final. Kuldeep is one of the highest wicket-takers of the tournament and is in sensational form. His spell would be crucial for India in taking major breakthroughs and hopefully win them the game.
Top captains & vice captains – Indian opener Shubman Gill could be the best batter for India in the Asia Cup 2023 final. Gill was sensational for India in the first game, scoring 121 runs in 133 deliveries. He would look to put in a similar knock against Sri Lanka and guide his side to the title win. Kusal Mendis has been in sensational form smashing three half-centuries in last five matches. He has scored 253 runs and has been brilliant with his wicketkeeping skills as well.
Smart pick – Dunith Wellalage has quickly reached second in the rankings of leading wicket-taker of the tournament. He has scored important 78 runs with the bat as well.
Cautious Pick – Dasun Shanaka has not been able to convert his talent into performances in the last few matches. You can make your team without him.
My XI – Shubman Gill (Captain), Kusal Mendis (Vice-Captain), Kuldeep Yadav, Dunith Wellalage, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Pathum Nissanka, Hardik Pandya, Charith Asalanka, Kusal Perera, KL Rahul
