India vs Sri Lanka on January 12

India will play the second ODI of the three-match series against Sri Lanka on Thursday at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. India won the first game after posting a massive total of 373 runs for the loss of seven wickets on the board. The team decided to pick Shubman Gill in the playing 11 instead of Ishan Kishan. Gill added 143 runs for the first wicket along with the Indian captain, Rohit Sharma. Both the openers missed an excellent opportunity to score a century. Virat Kohli scored his 45th century in ODIs and looked in great touch. Kasun Rajitha picked up three wickets but gave away 88 runs in ten overs. Sri Lanka lost two wickets in the first six overs and lost three by the end of the 15th over. Dhananjaya de Silva made 47 runs off 40 deliveries and provided stability to the Sri Lankan innings. Pathum Nissanka continued his excellent form in this format and scored his fifth half-century. Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanka continued from where he left in the T20I series and made 108 runs off 88 deliveries. However, all these innings were not enough for Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka suffered with the middle-order crisis in the T20I series, and the same repeated in the first game. India, on the other hand, performed really well with both bat and ball. They have a problem related to the selection of the playing 11, and we might see some chopping and changing.

Best economical pick – Umran Malik picked up three wickets for 57 runs in the first game, which is now his best bowling figure in ODIs. He has taken ten wickets in six ODIs at an average of 25.5 so far.

Top captains & vice captains – Rohit Sharma has scored 691 runs in 12 innings at the Eden Gardens, including his highest individual score in ODIs. He made 83 runs off 67 deliveries in the last game and has not scored a century since January 2020. Dasun Shanaka finished as the leading run-scorer for Sri Lanka in ODIs and made 124 runs in three innings at an average of 62. He made 108 runs off 88 deliveries in the first game and was the highest scorer for the team.

Smart pick – Shreyas Iyer made 28 runs off 24 deliveries in the first game and batted in the number four position. He made 724 runs in 15 innings last year at an average of 55.69 and was the leading run-scorer for the team.

Cautious Pick – Wanidu Hasaranga has been one of the top players for Sri Lanka in the shortest format of the game. However, he has not been able to do the same in ODIs. In the first game, he gave away 67 runs in ten overs and failed to pick a wicket.

My XI – Rohit Sharma (Captain), Dasun Shanaka (Vice-Captain), Umran Malik, Axar Patel, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Chamika Karunaratne, Kasun Rajitha, Dhananjaya de Silva, Virat Kohli, Kusal Mendis
