India vs New Zealand on February 1

India will be locking horns with New Zealand in the series-deciding third T20I at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, February 1. After the hosts were handed a setback in the opening game by 21 runs, they made a strong statement in the next match with a six-wicket victory to keep the series alive. However, the Indian team was given a reality check by the Kiwis who fought valiantly despite defending just 100 runs. While the Indian bowlers showcased extraordinary performances in the last game, the batting was bit of a letdown. The hosts could have found themselves in total disarray had it not been for Suryakumar Yadav who successfully added the finishing touches. The Men in Blue will need to work on their batting ahead of the decider, which has misfired throughout the series. New Zealand bowlers were exceptional with the ball in hand during the series opener where they succeeded in defending a manageable total of 176 to draw first blood. They had also got to a competitive total courtesy of their middle-order brilliance capitalizing on India’s errant bowling. Even though the Kiwis’ batting looked completely off-color in the previous fixture, the bowling made things tough for the famed Indian batters.

Best economical pick – After having a forgettable outing in the first game, Arshdeep Singh roared back to form in style with the ball in hand as he not only made a tremendous impact in the wickets column, but also bowled an economical spell. The left-arm pacer finished with match-winning figures of 2/7 from his two overs at an economy of 3.5.

Top captains & vice captains – Suryakumar Yadav has been India’s most consistent batter in T20Is in the last eight months and has also rose to the occasion for the team when it mattered the most. He has also succeeded in making his bat do the talking throughout the ongoing series registering scores of 47 and following it up with an unbeaten match-winning 26. Yadav’s crucial knock in the last game earned him a well-deserved Player of the Match award. The top-ranked New Zealand batter Devon Conway scored just 11 runs in the last game but has been in sensational form across formats. He smashed 52 off 35 in the opening match after smashing 138 off 100 in the last ODI against India.

Smart pick – The New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner is in good form with both bat and ball lately. He was the top scorer for his team with 19 runs and conceded just 20 runs from his four-over spell in the last game.

Cautious Pick – The young Indian wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan has failed to score fifty from his last 12 T20I innings. He has scored just 23 runs in this series and should be avoided for this match.

My XI – Suryakumar Yadav (Captain), Devon Conway (Vice-Captain), Mitchell Santner, Arshdeep Singh, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Michael Bracewell, Glenn Philips, Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill, Daryl Mitchell
