The Gujarat Titans will face off against the Mumbai Indians - one of the strongest teams in the IPL - in the fifth match of the tournament. Both teams have a well-balanced squad and seem evenly matched, making this game the most anticipated contest in the first round of matches and likely to attract a lot of attention from fans. Interestingly, Hardik Pandya, who was the captain of Gujarat Titans last year, has switched teams and will now lead the Mumbai Indians in this tournament.  This move will be unusual for fans of MI, but they will be expecting him to replicate the kind of success he had with Gujarat Titans by winning his first final as captain and ending up as the runner-up the next. On the other hand, Shubman Gill has big boots to fill for the Gujarat Titans. GT will be hoping that Gill can lead them to a third consecutive final this season and lift the trophy.

Best economical pick – Sai Sudarshan is a prodigy who is regarded to be the future of cricket. It is at the same venue in Ahmedabad, where he smashed an impressive 96 in the final of the IPL 2023 against CSK. The youngster is continued to take off from where he left the last season.

Top captains & vice captains – It is crucial for GT that Shubman Gill maintains his form with the bat. The right-handed batter performed exceptionally well last season, scoring 890 runs at an impressive strike rate of 157.80. With the absence of Pandya and Mohammed Shami, two of their top performers, the Titans will rely heavily on their star opener to take on the primary role other than captaincy. Ishan Kishan has been out of action in the last three months. However, the star player would be willing to start the IPL 2024 on a good note. Kishan is handy as a wicket keeper and can score runs at the top for MI.

Smart pick – Jasprit Bumrah had a remarkable performance during the second Test against England on a flat Vizag deck. He managed to pick up six wickets in the first innings and three wickets in the second innings, helping India win the match by 106 runs and level the series. Ahmedabad is more of a home ground for Bumrah, where he can extract something out of a crematory-like pitch for bowlers.

Cautious Pick – Vijay Shankar had a terrific season as a batter for GT in the IPL 2023. However, given the absence of some key players, GT might have to leave him out of the playing XI. The experienced player might hence not be in the team.
