West Indies vs India on August 14

The India team continued their march at Port of Spain as the win has given them an unassailable lead in the 3-match ODI series. Though the Caribbean side put up a fight the visitors were equal to the task and grabbed all the important moments of the game. Till now Virat Kohli’s men have found answers to all the questions but the same cannot be said about the Windies team. They have struggled to match the intensity of their counterparts and now the series is at stake when they take on India for the final ODI at the same venue. Jason Holder’s arrival has lifted the spirits of the dressing room as the side tested the Indian team in patches. The batting was again a letdown as none of the stars took the responsibility of guiding the team.

Best economical pick – With India yet to win the series, it is unlikely that he will rest himself. Shreyas Iyer must bat at four for India. He is an ideal person to bat at this position and rotates the strike well. Iyer has displayed his capability in the last match and should be given a long run.

Top captains & vice captains – Rohit Sharma played an uncharacteristic knock in the second ODI and didn’t get the strike too often in the early part of his innings. Thus, he never really found the momentum and ended up playing too many dot balls. He is in terrific form and should look to make the best use of it. Moreover, he has got a point to prove ahead of the upcoming Test series. After 5 months, Virat Kohli registered an ODI century in the last game and it was a treat to watch him bat. The openers failed to deliver and there was a great responsibility for him. With the conditions being humid and the pitch not as easy to bat on, it wasn’t easy to get a big score. However, the Indian skipper pushed himself really well and played an excellent knock.

Smart pick – Chris Gayle is in the last stage of his international career and he will want to sign off in style. At the start of the year, he made a statement with a couple of his knocks against England. Then in the 2019 World Cup, the southpaw failed to make his mark and his poor returns was one of the reasons why the team ended at the bottom half of the points table. Now he is the highest run-getter for the country in the ODIs and he will be keen to celebrate the record with a Gayle Storm.

Cautions Pick – Shikhar Dhawan is yet to find his form back and hasn’t impressed on this tour thus far. The left-hander has had quite a few troubles facing left-arm seamers and has particularly struggled against the incoming delivery.

My XI – Rohit Sharma (Captain), Virat Kohli (Vice-Captain), Chris Gayle, Rishabh Pant, Shai Hope, Mohammed Shami, Sheldon Cottrell, Fabian Allen, Roston Chase, Shreyas Iyer, John Campbell
