Hyderabad vs Kolkata on April 21

Barring Andre Russell and a few sparks of brilliance from here and there, almost everything has gone wrong for the Kolkata Knight Riders in their last four matches of this edition’s Indian Premier League. Last match, Dinesh Karthik lost to cellar dwellers Royal Challengers Bangalore by 10 runs and are now needed to win most of their remaining matches in order to progress further. Their next opponent is the Sunrisers Hyderabad, whom they beat at the Eden Gardens by six wickets, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. On the contrary, the Sunrisers ceased their three-match losing streak, winning against the table-toppers Chennai Super Kings, devoid of stalwart MS Dhoni, at home and the Orange Army would another victory under their belt at home. The pitch has been good for batting, but when the ball gets old, the track has shown signs of slowing down to a large extent. Spinners are most likely to come into play. So pick as much as spinners for this encounter.

Best economical pick – Nitish Rana played a gem of a knock in the last encounter against RCB but couldn’t take his team over the line. Rana should look to play the same kind of aggressive cricket and should subject the opposition to pressure.

Top captains & vice captains – David Warner was unstoppable in the last game against CSK. He started attacking the bowlers right from the first ball and it was a delight watching him play that way. Earlier in the previous two games, he took a careful approach which didn’t pay dividends. But with the target being low, he set the chase up with a beautiful fifty within the powerplay.

 Andre Russell

Smart pick – Rashid Khan is more of a bowling all-rounder but can smash a few into the orbits with the ball. He has been bowling brilliantly for his team and is one of the biggest strengths. The Afghan spinner is very economical and picked up two wickets against CSK. The responsibility to stop someone like Andre Russell lies on him.

Cautious Pick – Kane Williamson is yet to get back to his best. He didn’t get those big runs in the recent home season for New Zealand as well. It is important for him to catch up with some good touch as the World Cup is approaching.

My XI – David Warner (Captain), Andre Russell (Vice-Captain), Nitish Rana, Rashid Khan, Jonny Bairstow, Sunil Narine, Khaleel Ahmed, Shubman Gill, Vijay Shankar, Chris Lynn, Yousuf Pathan
