Australia vs West Indies on June 6

Windies is currently at the top of the points table owing to their superior Net Run Rate of +5.802. The same is courtesy of their massive seven-wicket victory against Sarfaraz Ahmed’s Pakistan as they achieved a target of 106 runs with 36.2 overs to spare. Their fast bowlers did the job, after which the batsmen had to merely complete the formalities. The Caribbean team will next face Australia in Nottingham. The pitch at the Trent Bridge is generally an excellent one for batting and a high-scoring game can be expected. The Aussies also made a decent start to their World Cup campaign, beating Afghanistan by seven wickets in Bristol. In the unofficial warm-up match, Australia came out trumps against the mighty Windies, however, now it’s a whole new ball game and the Caribbean boys have a fair chance as well.

Best economical pick – 2019 has turned out to be a happy one for the left-handed Usman Khawaja. After his twin-centuries versus India, he did well against Pakistan as well. The Islamabad-born got an 89 in the warm-ups against Sri Lanka.

Top captains & vice captains – David Warner played his first international match for the Aussies after a gap of more than one year. He was cautious to start with on his return. However, he started accelerating when he got the measure of the conditions. He was ready to bide his time and that paid dividends. In the unofficial warm-up match, Warner got 12 against the Windies, but this time, a more confident Warner will be stepping on the park. Shai Hope has racked up runs with sheer authority and consistency over the last few months. The 25-year-old got a century in the warm-up versus New Zealand in Bristol. Unfortunately, the right-hander couldn’t deliver against Pakistan and got out for 11. In the last 13 one days, Hope has scored 850 runs at an average of 85 with a top score of 170 against Ireland in Dublin last month.

Smart pick – After a superlative show in the ODI series against England, Chris Gayle has come out all guns blazing even in the 2019 World Cup. Though the Windies were faced with a task of chasing a modest target in their first match, the 39-year-old Jamaican churned out a breezy 34-ball 50 with six fours and a six. He’ll be looking to play another knock of substance in the upcoming game as well.

Cautions Pick – Darren Bravo’s form is a massive concern for the Windies. He hasn’t been able to get the big scores and is in the middle of a terrible run. In the last 5 ODI matches, the left-hander only scored 27 runs which is quite concerning.

My XI – David Warner (Captain), Shai Hope (Vice-Captain), Chris Gayle, Usman Khawaja, Pat Cummins, Oshane Thomas, Jason Holder, Andre Russell, Adam Zampa, Nicholas Pooran, Ashley Nurse
