The mini Ashes-rivalry is set to take place for the second time in the 2019 World Cup. After Australia’s thumping 64-run victory over England at the Lord’s, the two teams are set to lock horns in the second semi-final. At the Edgbaston in Birmingham, the age-old rivals would be trying to book a summit clash berth at the Lord’s. The Aussies would be disappointed that they missed out on a top spot in the table. Aaron Finch’s men lost to South Africa by 10 runs at the Old Trafford in Manchester and finished second. The Three Lions, on the other hand, was in danger of even getting eliminated before the second round. The Brits lost at the hands of Sri Lanka and then the Aussies to find themselves in a rabbit hole. However, a couple of resounding victories against India and New Zealand took them to the semis.

Best economical pick – Jason Roy missed a few games due to an injury, but he has made a tremendous comeback. In the last two matches, the Durban-born batter scored got scores of 66 and 60 and has been absolutely stupendous. Overall, the 28-year-old has notched 341 runs in six matches at an average of 68.20. His strike-rate of 114.04 shows how fluent he has been in his stroke-play.

Top captains & vice captains – In nine matches, David Warner had racked up 638 runs at an average of 79.75. With three centuries and as many half-centuries, the southpaw has hardly looked out of touch. Even in the previous game against South Africa, he churned out a century, though it came in a losing cause. Jonny Bairstow had his difficulties in the first few games and looked a tad out of touch. However, the back-to-back tons he got in the previous games would give him a whole lot of confidence. In 9 matches, Bairstow has gotten 462 runs at an average of 51.33 at a strike-rate of 97.26.

Smart pick – Ben Stokes has lived up to expectations in the mega event. He started with an 89 versus South Africa and now has four half-centuries in nine matches. Two of his knocks came in losing causes though. Currently, Stokes has 381 runs at an average of 54.42 at a strike-rate of 95.01. Stokes has also done his bit with the ball in hand, having picked up seven wickets with an economy of 4.65.

Cautions Pick – The form of Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler has been a slight bit of concern. These two players, for all the talent that they’ve got, haven’t backed it up with good performances of late. It is a wonderful opportunity for them both to reclaim their stake and there can’t be a better stage than this one.
