3rd April,1989 : Hard-hitting Sri Lanka batsman Thisara Perera was born today.

He first came to notice during an under-pressure cameo against India in Mirpur in 2010. Perera made his international debut for Sri Lanka in December 2009, in a late call-up to play in an ODI against India in Kolkata. He stunned the Indians with a 14 ball 31 runs lower down the batting order. He made his maiden one-day half-century in South Africa in 2012, a few months after playing his first Test in England in 2011. In Australia he is known by his nickname “Panda” given by George Bailey during his stint at BBL with Brisbane Heat, although he prefers TP.

He represented Sri Lanka at various youth levels, and was selected for the 2008 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

Perera made his international debut for Sri Lanka in December 2009, in a late call-up to play in an ODI against India in Kolkata. He stunned the Indians with a 14 ball 31 runs lower down the batting order. He has scored 782 runs and has taken 94 wickets in 75 ODIs till date. He has a very healthy strike rate of 104, which is very useful during the latter half of the innings.

In May 2010, he made his Twenty20 international debut against Zimbabwe, representing Sri Lanka in the ICC World Twenty20 in the West Indies.

Today in the World T20 semifinal clash between Sl and WI if he can contribute towards his team’s winning cause then it will be the best birthday gift for him. Though words are doing rounds that he might not play, but still this explosive batsman can do much damage on his day.
