Mumbai, 29th Apr, 2016 :
IPL 2016 saw the suspension of Chennai Superkings and Rajasthan Royals, following match fixing accusitions on their owners. The 9th edition of IPL however saw 2 new teams in the league - Rising Pune Supergiants and Gujurat Lions, composing of the players from the suspended teams.
Gujarat Lions, at this point, is standing tall at the top of the table. While on the other hand, Rising Pune Supergiants is placed in the bottom 4. Currently, they are struggling at No. 6 in the points table, having won only 2 out of their 6 games.
Rising Pune Supergiants, making their way under the leadership of Dhoni, is desparately trying to get back into their game. Apart from leading India to win all the ICC trophies in his captaincy, Dhoni has previously led CSK in all the 8 seasons of IPL. Moreover, he has saw his team reach semi finals in each of the edition. Adding sugar to coffee, CSK won the IPL title twice under his captaincy, lost 4 times after getting into the finals and got themselves eliminated twice in the semi-finals. Moreover, it became the first team to successfully defend the title by winning the 3rd and 4th edition of IPL(Years 2010 and 2011). Also, he has led CSK in all the 5 editions of Champions League Twenty20, winning 2 of them. Mumbai Indians is the only other IPL team to play every season of Champions League Twenty20 and it has also won 2 editions of the same.
Dhoni has led CSK in 22 Champions League Twenty20 game, winning 13 of it with a win% as 61.36. No other team has so many wins recorded in Champions League Twenty20. Trinidad and Tobago follow them with 12 wins. Also, he has led CSK in 129 games, winning 78 out of it. The most games as captain and also the best Win%, which is 60.47 (minimum 10 games).
The past has saw Dhoni lead his team atleast till the semi-finals in each edition of IPL. This year, however, he has to lead a different army, a different team. His team is currently struggling to get into the upper part of the table and has only 2 wins in their 6 games. With 8 more league games to go, will Dhoni lead his team to yet another semifinal or will we see jinx getting broke this team? Lets wait and watch.
