West Indies v India on June 25

The opener of the five match ODI series between India and West Indies was called off after persistent rains. West Indies skipper won the toss and elected to bowl first. Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan gave a perfect start to Indian innings by scoring 132 runs in 25 overs which is best opening partnership by India in West Indies soil. Both openers scored their individual fifties and mustered a century opening stand. Yuvraj Singh’s stay at the crease was a short one. He was sent packing on 4 by Jason Holder. In walked MS Dhoni to join Kohli at the crease. Just when the two had started settling in, rain poured down. The players walked off the park with India on 199/3 in 39.2 overs. Persistent rain allowed no further game and the match was called off. The two teams will now meet at the same venue on June 25 in the second ODI.

·         Best economical pick – West Indian Leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo, who was not considered for any of the three ODIs against the Afghans, was the pick of the bowlers with figures of one for 39 from his allotment of ten overs.

·       Top captains & vice captains – Shikhar Dhawan continued his good form from the Champions Trophy to blast yet another fifty. He missed his well-deserved century by just 13 runs when he was trapped in front by Devendra Bishoo for 87, which he scored off just 92 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes. He completed his 3500 ODI runs in this match which is fastest by any Indian Btsman. Dhawan now holds the record of fastest Indian to score 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000, 3500 runs in ODIs. Indian Skipper Virat Kohli was looking good again in this match.  At the time of rain break, Kohli was unbeaten on 30 off 45 balls with just a single four.

·       Smart pick – Coming to Indian ODI team after a long time Ajinkya Rahane gave India a steady and tremendous start. He and Shikhar Dhawan put an opening stand of 132 in 25 overs; the highest-ever opening stand for India on West Indian soil. The partnership ruptured when Rahane was deceived by a slower one from Alzarri Joseph after a brittle 78-ball 62.

·         Cautious Pick – Yuvraj Singh has been unable to replicate the form he showed when he scored an imperious 150 against England earlier in the year. He failed to make a difference in the middle order yet again as he was dismissed after making just 4 runs. It is only one of the several anonymous performances he has put in since scored a half-century against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy.

·         My XI – Shikhar Dhawan (Captain), Virat Kohli (Vice-Captain), Ajinkya Rahane, Devendra Bishoo, Alzarri Joseph, Umesh Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Shai Hope, Jason Mohammed, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni
