India vs Australia on October 1

It was a day which ended streaks. For India’s perspective, they lost their first game after 9 consecutive wins. They were eyeing a perfect ten, a feat which has never been accomplished by India in ODIs.  For Australia, they ended their nightmare streak of losing 11 away ODIs by finally winning one against India in Bengaluru. The 21-run loss to Kohli’s men has dethroned them from the No. 1 ODI ranking as South Africa has climbed past the Men in Blue. They are behind the Proteas by a slender margin and can regain the top spot if they manage to win the last ODI which is to be played at the Vidarbha Cricket Association in Nagpur on Sunday.

·         Best economical pick – In a chase of 335, Kedar Jadhav came into bat India at 147/3. He played second-fiddle to a rampaging Hardik Pandya, and was content to nudge the ball around for ones and twos. The scorecard would show Jadhav’s strike rate as 97.1 after walking in at No 5 in a chase of 335, but it wouldn't reveal the kind of match situations he overcame to produce this knock. His 67 came in 69 balls with seven fours and a six.

·         Top captains & vice captains – Steve Smith once again called it correctly at the toss and decided to bat first as Aaron Finch and David Warner strode out on a flat deck. The former has been a much-needed lifeline for their line-up as the duo piled on the runs with utter ease. They hit the bowlers with disdain and didn’t show any mercy. Warner brought up his century off 104 balls and the pair also added more than 200 for the first wicket in the process. The first wicket only fell in the 35th over as Warner was holed out of the part-timer Kedar Jadhav. But the damage had already been done by the openers.

·         Smart pick – Nathan Coulter-Nile has arguably been the best pace bowler for Australia in the series thus far. He did not disappoint this time around either. He took two key wickets in the game. He managed to dismiss Virat Kohli cheaply in the run chase. Later, he sent Axar Patel packing in the final over of the innings.

·         Cautious Pick – After being dropped from the previous ODI, Matthew Wade got a look in the Australian lineup for this particular game. He was under immense pressure to perform. Much to his miseries, his services with the bat were not needed on the day. He scored an unbeaten 3 in as many deliveries in the match.

My XI – Aaron Finch (Captain), David Warner (Vice-Captain), Kedar Jadhav, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Hardik Pandya, Patrick Cummins, Umesh Yadav, Peter Handscomb, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Travis Head
