South Africa vs Sri Lanka on December 26
South Africa will take on Sri Lanka in the first Test match of their three-match series when the two sides clash on Monday, December 26. The Boxing Day Test match will be played at St. George’s Park at Port Elizabeth. The home side are coming into this Test match on a high after having beaten Australia 2-1 away from home in their last series. The Proteas also defeated New Zealand 1-0 in a two-match series at home in August this year. The visitors won both their Test matches in Zimbabwe by huge margins after having beaten Australia 3-0 at home in a three match series before embarking on the tour of South Africa.
· Best economical pick – Nuwan Pradeep and Lahiru Kumara did well with the ball against the South African XI in the practice match and will be key players for Sri Lanka during the course of the five days.
· Top captains & vice captains – South Africa appointed Faf du Plessis as their permanent Test captain after AB de Villiers stepped down from his role as du Plessis got the best out of the team in his absence. The skipper will have a point to prove to his detractors and will be a key man for the hosts in this upcoming Test match. Sri Lanka did well in their tour match against an invitational South Africa XI ahead of the real thing. Seven of their top eight batsmen registered 50s during this match. Kaushal Silva was the top scorer of that match.
· Smart pick – South Africa have a very good bowling attack that does really well at home in the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Vernon Philander and Kyle Abbott. In such conditions, Sri Lanka will require their batsmen to put up a collective effort.
· Cautions Pick – What will worry the Sri Lankan team management is the form of opening batsman Kusal Perera. He is an in and out type of Batsman who can score a loads of runs on his day and can be got out cheaply easily. So be careful before picking him in your team.
My XI – Faf du Plessis (Captain),Kaushal Silva (Vice-Captain), Dilruwan Perera, Kagiso Rabada, Vernon Philander, Quinton de Kock, Angelo Mathews, Kusal Mendis, Dean Elgar, Temba Bavuma, Dinesh Chandimal
