India vs England on December 16
· The fifth and final test match of England’s tour of India gets underway in Chennai on Friday with India already 3-0 up in the series. The closest England have come to a win in this series came in the first test at Rajkot which ended with India holding on for a draw but since then India won the second test at Visakhapatnam by a 246 run margin and the hosts took the third test in Mohali by eight wickets. India only needed to avoid defeat in the fourth test at Mumbai to clinch the series and they put in a dominant display to win by an innings and 36 runs. India will look to carry on their good form from where they left at fourth test coming into 5th test as England survive India’s spin onslaught in 4th test. England will be hoping to turnaround and show good form both in bowling & batting department and try to win the only test match left in Chennai.
· Best economical pick – England started well in Mumbai, and one didn't expect them to go down as heavily as they did in the end. Keaton Jennings, who debuted for England in Mumbai and became Cook's 14th opening partner in Tests, put on a 99-run opening stand with the England captain. Debutant Jennings played with great determination against the spin trio of India. He impressed one and all with his innovative yet cautious batting, which helped him score a century in his first Test innings itself. Jennings became the 19th player and only the eighth opener from England to score a century on Test debut, joining an elite list in the process.
· Top captains & vice captains – In the series stats Virat Kohli is top run scorer with 640 in seven knocks and Joe Root is best of the English with 397 in eight. India's Test skipper Virat Kohli, who was the chief architect of India's thumping victory over England, was also adjudged the Man of the Match for his record breaking 235-run knock. Furthermore, Kohli's aggregate of 640 runs in this series is the highest by any Asian batsman in a Test series against England. He broke the record of Mohammad Yousuf's 631 runs from four Tests against England in 2006. Kohli's 640 runs is also the highest by an Asian captain in a Test series against England.
· Smart pick – India's lead spinner Ravichandran Ashwin picked up 12 wickets in this match. He now has 24 five-wicket hauls in Tests which is the third highest by an Indian after Kumble (35 in 132 Tests) and Harbhajan Singh (25 in 103 Tests). Ashwin has also taken 15 five-fors in Tests over the last two years.
· Cautions Pick – The Indian opener KL Rahul got out cheaply in his comeback match. He scored just 24 runs in the first innings.
My XI – Virat Kohli (Captain), Joe Root (Vice-Captain), Adil Rashid, Jayant Yadav, Jake Ball, Jonny Bairstow, Alastair Cook, Keaton Jennings, Karun Nair, B Kumar, R Ashwin
