Australia v Pakistan on December 15
Australia will take on Pakistan in the first of three Test matches when the two sides square off at The Gabba in Brisbane. The match will be played from Thursday, December 15 and will be a day-night contest. The home side are coming into this series on the backs of a bit of turmoil. Australia have won just one Test match series this season against New Zealand before the ICC World T20 in India this year. They were beaten 3-0 by Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka before South Africa subjected them to an embarrassing 2-1 defeat in front of their own fans recently. Pakistan, on the other hand, were beaten 2-0 by New Zealand as the side played a couple of Test matches in New Zealand before embarking on this upcoming series. Prior to their humbling in New Zealand, Pakistan had drawn their series 2-2 against England this summer before defeating West Indies in the United Arab Emirates.
· Best economical pick – Pakistan bowling attack has a lot of promise with Mohammad Amir, Yasir Shah, Sohail Khan and Wahab Riaz all top-notch operators who have come up with some good performances this season.
· Top captains & vice captains – Australia had problems in the first two Test matches against South Africa and their performance levels were not the greatest. However, the team bounced back in the final Test at Adelaide with Usman Khawaja doing very well with the bat. Steve Smith, David Warner and Khawaja will have a crucial role to play for Australia with the bat while Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc lead their attack with the ball. The three batsmen have been in good form and will need to be at their best if Australia are to dominate the series.
· Smart pick – The key for the Pakistan will be to find some consistency. Younis Khan continues to be the pillar of strength in the batting lineup and the veteran batsman will hold the key for the visitors as far as batting is concerned.
· Cautions Pick – When the squad was announced for the Pakistan match in Brisbane, there were no changes and it must be said the right option has been taken by the selectors. The only real question was around Shaun Marsh and whether he could gain his spot back, but given he didn’t play in the Shield round before the squad was announced and was barely back in the nets as he recovered from injury, there was no real chatter about him playing.
My XI – U Khawaja (Captain),David Warner (Vice-Captain),Mohammad Amir, Younis Khan, Josh Hazlewood, Sohail Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Sarfraz Ahmed, Rahat Ali, Sami Aslam, Jackson Bird
