Australia v South Africa on November 12
The summer of international cricket did not get off to a particularly strong start for Australia. Australia dominated the opening day of the first Test in Perth and were in complete control, but some poor batting and a disciplined performance from South Africa saw the game swing completely. South Africa can secure the series with a win in the second Test in Hobart, but with plenty of rain forecast in Hobart the draw is a genuine option. Australia have lost only once in Hobart. And they don't make a habit of losing consecutive games in two series.
· Best economical pick – De Kock, who was the mainstay in South Africa’s first innings total of 242 with a brilliant 84, made a plucky 64 to again in second innings of first test thwart Australia’s hopes of making early inroads in the tourists’ lower order.
· Top captains & vice captains – David Warner, who copped for us with a first-innings fifty in Perth, appears to be one of the few Aussies unaffected by the malaise. He has a good record in Hobart, averaging 81 from five innings, only one of which he has failed to pass 50. Despite the loss of Steyn, South Africa pace stocks are strong. Kagiso Rabada was excellent in Perth with a man of the match performance, claiming seven wickets and he dovetailed beautifully with Vernon Philander.
· Smart pick – JP Duminy and Elgar batted and batted and batted, notched their respective centuries, then batted some more in the second innings of first test. It was not until tea that Duminy fell for 141 with Elgar following for 127 after the break, but the game was basically gone.
· Cautions Pick – Hashim Amla managed only one run in Perth which is very rare for a class player like Amla. He scored a duck in the first innings and then scored just 1 run in the second innings of first test,
My XI – David Warner (Captain), Kagiso Rabada(Vice-Captain), Quinton de Kock, JP Duminy, Dean Elgar, Temba Bavuma, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Usman Khawaja, Vernon Philander, Mitchell Marsh
