Zimbabwe vs Sri Lanka on October 29
Zimbabwe are ready to take on Sri Lanka in a two-match test series at home. The Harare Sports Club will be hosting the first test to be played between October 29 and November 2. Zimbabwe recently played a couple of Test matches against New Zealand at home before the Kiwis went into their series against South Africa. The hosts were drubbed in the series 2-0 by the New Zealanders. The bowling had been pretty ordinary during the series and were no match for the likes of Tom Latham, Ross Taylor and Kane Williamson. Sri Lanka have already featured in a couple of Test match series’ this season. They went on a tour of England before hosting Australia at home. The side were well beaten in England in the first two matches before a late fight-back at Lord’s in the third Test saw them draw the contest. Back home against Australia, Sri Lanka reigned supreme as Australia’s batsmen failed to cope with Rangana Herath & Co. Sri Lanka capitalized on Australia’s weakness against spin bowling and went on to make a 3-0 clean-sweep of the series.
· Best economical pick – In the absence of Chandimal and Mathews, Sri Lanka's batting is going to rely mainly on Kaushal Silva who had big knocks against Australia. He seems to be in good form at the moment and if he continue to bat like he did in the previous test series, the visitors won't have much problems reaching a good score.
· Top captains & vice captains – Hamilton Masakadza is the leading run-scorer in tests for Zimbabwe at this ground from the current lot. With 837 runs from 22 innings, he averages close to 40 here and the team will depend on him for a good start. The main threat for the home side is going to come from the Sri Lankan spin trio of Rangana Herath, Dilruwan Perera and Lakshan Sandakan. Skipper Herath will be the key in Sri Lanka's bowling and he is likely to pick up most of the Zimbabwean wickets. If he carries his form from the Australia series, the hosts could be bundled out before 250.
· Smart pick – The Zimbabwean Skipper Graeme Cremer will have a huge role to play in this series. The Leg spinner has taken eight wickets in three matches at this ground and he will need to be at his best for restricting the tourists to a manageable total.
· Cautions Pick – The absence of Zimbabwean quicks Tinashe Panyangara and Tendai Chatara will make life a lot easier for the Sri Lankan batsmen. So Michael Chinouya may went for some runs in this match so be careful before picking him in your team.
My XI – Hamilton Masakadza (Captain),Rangana Herath (Vice-Captain), Kaushal Silva, Graeme Creamer, Sikandar Raza, Lakshan Sandakan, Dilruwan Perera, Regis Chakabva, Peter Moor, Asela Gunaratne, Dhananjaya de Silva
