India vs New Zealand on October 23

New Zealand finally registered a win on their India tour. The visitors beat India by six runs in the second One-Day International (ODI) to level the series 1-1 with three more matches to go. It was a closely fought contest as momentum kept swinging from one side to another. Chasing a target of 243, India were eventually bowled out for 236 thus falling six runs short of the target. After first win in previous game team New Zealand now looks more confident for 3rd odi match against India at Mohali on Sunday 23 October 2016. It was necessary win for NZ team which finally found its first victory against India after fifth match. India win the test series by 3-0 before this series.

Best economical pick – After giving a man of the match performance in first odi by taking 3 wickets Hardik Pandya stepped up with the bat scoring vital 36 runs in the slog overs taking India close to the target of 243, but India fell agonizing short by six runs in the second odi.

·         Top captains & vice captains – Kane Williamson's calm and composed 118 off 128 balls, despite minimal support from his fellow batsmen, had helped NZ to 242 for nine, but the Kiwi skipper got good backing from his bowlers as they managed to chip away the Indian wickets at regular intervals. After becoming the first New Zealand batsman to carry his bat in the first odi the kiwi opener Tom Latham again played a handy knock in second odi scoring 46 runs off 46 balls.

·       Smart pick – It was a good start for NZ in the second odi with the ball with Henry and Trent Boult - both drafted in for this game after being rested for the 1st ODI. Boult registered a fantastic spell of 10-2-25-2, while Matt Henry (1/51), Southee (3/52), Mitchell Santner (1/49) and Martin Guptill (2/6) found themselves among the wickets.

·         Cautions Pick – In what had been another miserable chapter on a nightmarish tour, Martin Guptill had his stumps splayed by Umesh Yadav on the second ball of the day. Guptill had strode forward to defend a length ball, playing for the line, but it pitched and shaped away just enough to knock back his off-stump.
