SA v AUS & BAN v ENG on October 9

South Africa will go up against Australia on Sunday, October 9 as the two sides square off in the fourth ODI of their ongoing five-match series. The hosts have already established an unassailable lead in the series by winning the first three matches at Centurion, Johannesburg and Durban. The Australians have been well-beaten in the first three matches here. They gave it their all with the bat on Wednesday but were unable to bowl South Africa out of the game on a flat track at Durban. Warner and Smith were excellent with the bat and the two will be key once more. Warner in particular has a fantastic personal record against the South Africans. The Proteas will be overjoyed after winning the series with some of their top players missing from the side. The result goes on to show that they have more than adequate bench-strength, something that was true for Australia up until very recently. Du Plessis in particular has led his troops really well and will be key to their hopes on Sunday as they look to go 4-0 up. The 2nd ODI will be on October 9. One has to say that this is going to be an enticing encounter. Bangladesh at home are a solid team as we all know. England are solid in all conditions.

·         Best economical pick – Bangladesh lost six for 17 to not so much throw away a winning position as trample it into a pulp and hurl it off a cliff. But credit to England, and in particular Jake Ball, who bowled with flair and variety to turn round a match that was running away from their team. Ball took a fifer on his ODI debut. His five for 50 were the best ever figures by an England bowler on ODI debut.

·         Top captains & vice captains – Batting first in the third ODI, Australia put 371/6 on the board with David Warner and Steve Smith posting twin centuries. While Warner top-scored with 117 runs on the day, Smith hit 108 runs. David Miller’s superb ton the other day helped South Africa complete the second-highest ever run chase in the history of ODI cricket. Miller hit 118 runs off 79 deliveries in a match-winning effort from the lower-middle-order after Faf du Plessis, JP Duminy and Rilee Rossouw had fluffed their lines. Miller had good support from Andile Phehlukwayo during the chase with the latter posting an unbeaten 42 runs during his stay at the middle.

·       Smart pick – England were 63-3 with Jonny Bairstow run out for nought and the innings at a tipping point when Duckett was joined by Stokes. Then Ben Stokes stroking his maiden one-day century and some excellent catching.

·         Cautions Pick – The Bangladeshi All-rounder Mosharraf Hossain who scored just 7 runs and conceded 23 runs in 3 overs and dropped 2 easy cayches will be a risky pick.

My XI – David Warner (Captain), David Miller (Vice-Captain), Ben Stokes, Jake Ball, Imrul Kayes, Imran Tahir, John Hastings, Quinton de Kock, George Bailey, Ben Duckett, Hashim Amla
