SA v AUS & PAK v WI on October 2
In second ODI, South Africa host Australia at New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. The venue has witnessed an iconic match in 2006 between these two sides when South Africa chased down record total of 434. It has been a happy hunting ground for South Africa. The Proteas have played 30 ODIs at this venue, winning 22 of them and losing just eight. Pakistan's resurgence in white ball cricket continued as they thrashed West Indies in the first ODI by 111 runs. Pakistan are expected to field the same XI for the second game as they look to maintain momentum and move up their opponents in the ICC ODI rankings. West Indies' struggles in 50-over cricket continued on Friday as they were suffered defeat by 111 runs at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. While the bowlers still performed decently, it was the batting which let them down with none of the batsman - barring Marlon Samuels - able to put on runs on the board. The visitors have a team that is talented but it is their inconsistency which has hurt them especially in 50-over and Test cricket.
· Best economical pick – Quinton De Kock pulverized the Aussie bowlers and then some more. He had an able opening partner in Rilee Rossouw, a flat surface and a quick outfield to help his cause but to have scored 178 from just 113 balls in a chase required some getting and he did that well..
· Top captains & vice captains – Babar Azam and Mohammad Nawaz were the stars with bat and ball, respectively. Babar Azam scored 120 runs off 131 balls, his maiden ODI century to help the Men in Green post 284 in their 50-overs, while Mohammad Nawaz then took over, picking up four wickets for 42 runs off his 10 overs to bowl out West Indies for 175 runs.
· Smart pick – Among the South African bowlers, Aldine Phehlukwayo bagged a four-for in only his second ODI but the sense one gets is the Aussies could look to play him a lot better than they did in the opening ODI. There were too many shots played in anger against the medium-pacer in a bid to target the youngster but they will now look to turn things around in that sense.
· Cautions Pick – Kraigg Brathwaite struggled in the opener’s role while the inability to rotate strike on a consistent basis is another issue for them. West Indies will need to tighten up if they are to get a positive result come Sunday.
· My XI – Babar Azam (Captain), Mohammad Nawaz (Vice-Captain), Quinton de Kock, Aldine Phehlukwayo, George Bailey, Sharjeel Khan, Rilee Rossouw, Imran Tahir, Kagiso Rabada, Steven Smith, Shoaib Malik
