SL v AUS & ENG v PAK on September 4
· Having endured an embarrassing whitewash in the Test series against Sri Lanka, Australia will eye payback as they gear up for the fifth and final One-Day International in Pallekele on Sunday. Australia won’t be able to achieve a clean sweep because Sri Lanka won the second ODI in Colombo by 82 runs, but a 4-1 score line can alleviate some of the pain and boost their confidence ahead of the two Twenty20 Internationals. Australia will know this is as good a chance as any given how depleted Sri Lanka are at the moment. Losing Angelo Mathews, the skipper, to a calf tear he suffered during the fourth ODI is a telling blow for the Lankans. They have also rested a couple of players in order to bring in some fresh legs. The England bandwagon in One Day International (ODI) cricket rolls on after they overcame a stiff Pakistan challenge to win the fourth ODI at Headingley on 1 September. Set to chase 248 to win, the Three Lions found themselves at 72/4 at one point, but then found the steel to get past the total with four wickets in hand. Pakistan's disappointing run in the limited overs format continued. England's opponents lost the fourth ODI to the hosts by four wickets. However, they did show some fight by giving the Three Lions a scare to take six wickets with the ball.
· Best economical pick – Pakistan batting has been in a shambles throughout the tournament and that they got to 247 was thanks to skipper Azhar Ali who scored a measured 80 while all-rounder Imad Wasim provided the fireworks at the end with a 41-ball 57 run knock in the fourth ODI.
· Top captains & vice captains – The key to England’s win in the fourth ODI was the performances of Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow with the bat. The duo put on 103 runs for the fifth wicket with Stokes scoring 69 runs while Bairstow scored 61 runs to pick up the player of the match award.
· Smart pick – What will please Sri Lanka is that Dinesh Chandimal has been in good nick with scores of 80 not out, 48 and 102 on the three previous occasions before the fourth ODI. Kusal Mendis, too, has done reasonably well with two fifties to his name.
· Cautions Pick – What will worry the Pakistani team management is the form of opening batsman Sami Aslam. Sami is yet to reach a fifty mark which makes his place in the line-up precarious. Sami replaced out of form Hafeez and failed to perform in last 3 matches.
My XI – Ben Stokes (Captain), Jonny Bairstow (Vice-Captain), Dinesh Chandimal, Imad Wasim , Mitchell Starc, Joe Root, George Bailey, Kusal Mendis, Babar Azam, David Willey, Adam Zampa
