England v Pakistan on August 27
· Hosts England's dominance in the limited overs format of the game continued on 24 August, as they cruised past Pakistan to win the first One Day International (ODI) clash by 44 runs via Duckworth/Lewis method on Wednesday. In a match, interrupted by rain the Three Lions bowled impressively to restrict their opponents to 260 runs off their 50 overs, with Mark Wood and Liam Plunkett in particular bowling with pace and fire. Their opponents Pakistan, started strongly in the first ODI only to fade towards the end. The team at one point was on course to score well over 300 only for the rain to interrupt their flow, which eventually hurt them in the end. What hurts them is that at times they fail to rotate the strike in the middle overs, relying solely on big shots to score. The team management will need to work on this area, which has been a big concern for the team over a couple of years Spinner Yasir Shah who was dropped for the first game is expected to play which would mean that either Mohammad Nawaz or Imad Wasim miss out.
· Best economical pick – One of the most talented batsmen of this English side Jos Buttler has a very good record in the shorter version of game in this year. He is winning match for England very consistently in this year. He will look to continue his good form in this series too.
· Top captains & vice captains – In the batting department, Jason Roy and Joe Root continued their good form, scoring fifties to take the side home. Roy in particular, has been a joy to watch with his batting improving on a daily basis, and with his propensity to score quickly, he is a real asset to the team. In fact, he has scored three fifty plus scores in his last five ODI innings which has helped his team take control of the game early on.
· Smart pick – The Pakistani Skipper Azhar Ali finally broke his run of poor form in limited overs format by compiling a well-made 82 in the first match.
· Cautions Pick – The Pakistani No.3 batsman Mohammad Hafeez still disappointing the Pakistani supporters with his poor performances. After a poor show in Test matches Hafeez failed to score a big knock in the first odi.
My XI – Jason Roy (Captain), Joe Root (Vice-Captain), Jos Buttler, Azhar Ali, Umar Gul, Mark Wood, Liam Plunkett, Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali, Shoaib Malik, Sharjeel Khan
