SL v AUS & ENG v PAK on August 24
· The question now for Sri Lanka is if they can look to replicate the pitches that were on display during the Test series and take advantage of the floundering Aussie batsmen. There are two factors they would want to have a look at - there would be no Rangana Herath to scythe through the opposition and how Australia struggled on the slower tracks in the Caribbean in their last ODI series. After a thrilling Test series which concluded in a draw, England will lock horns with visitors Pakistan in the first One-day international of the 5-match ODI series on Wednesday. England has recalled the services of fast bowler Mark Wood and all-rounder Ben Stokes as they are fully fit again. As far as Pakistan are concerned, the Azhar Ali led side will be full of confidence after their fabulous performance in the ODI against Ireland at Dublin.
· Best economical pick – Chris Woakes has been England’s most consistent player since the Sri Lanka series. Be it with the bat or with the ball, he steps up every time to deliver. He had a terrific Test series against Pakistan with the ball and will be looking to follow it up in the ODI series as well along with good performances with the bat whenever needed.
· Top captains & vice captains – In the first match of this odi series Aaron Finch settled early nerves in the run chase with some hard-hitting that included a six in the first over, eventually scoring 56 off 46 deliveries. Pakistani All-Rounder Imad Wasim bamboozled the Irish batsmen with the ball in the first odi match against Ireland, taking five wickets for 14 runs; his first five-wicket haul in ODIs.
· Smart pick – Sharjeel Khan can be a real game-changer for Pakistan. He has immense potential and can take the match away from the opposition very quickly. Ireland got a taste of that in the first ODI against Pakistan in Dublin and if Sharjeel can repeat that performance, Pakistan will be on top of the game once again.
· Cautions Pick – The Pakistani No.3 batsman Mohammad Hafeez had an awful test series in England. Where he failed to perform in first 3 tests and then dropped from the last test. After that in the odi against Ireland he failed miserably in that match too. So it will be very risky to pick him in your squad.
My XI – Aaron Finch (Captain), Imad Wasim (Vice-Captain), Steven Smith, Kushal Mendis, Mitchell Starc, James Faulkner, Sharjeel Khan, Chris Woakes, Jos Buttler, Umar Gul, Jason Roy
