Sri Lanka v Australia on July 26

·         Sri Lanka host Australia in the first Test match at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on 26 July (Tuesday). This is the first Test of a three-match series. Sri Lanka's Test summer did not go off well with the Islanders getting thrashed in their tour of England earlier this year, suffering a humiliating 3-0 whitewash at the hands of the Three Lions. The Lankan outfit now find themselves in familiar climate and surroundings when they welcome Australia for a three-Test, five-One Day International (ODI) and two-T20 International series. Visitors Australia come into this clash after a period of rest, having last played in February when they toured New Zealand for a two-match Test series. The Australians have happy memories of playing in Sri Lanka, a place where they have been very successful. In fact, over 13 Test matches spread out over five tours, Australia have won six compared to just one for the hosts.

·         Best economical pick – With 304 wickets from 70 Tests, Rangana Herath is Sri Lanka’s main weapon and if Sri Lanka are to give some sort of contest to the Australians, he will need to be in top form.

·         Top captains & vice captains – The Australian skipper Steve Smith, have the personnel to continue his golden run of form in the Island nation. However, it will be interesting to see how he counter spin, considering the tracks will offer turn and bounce. The Sri Lankan batting is dependent on skipper Angelo Mathews who will need to fire every time they are at the crease. He was the top scorer for Sri Lanka in their tour of England.

·         Smart pick – The Sri Lankan Wicket Keeper batsman Dinesh Chandimal had a fruitful England series before coming to the series. He was the only player for Sri Lanka who has a fifty in the all matches in that tour of England.

·       Cautions Pick – Coming into the first Test, Sri Lanka have problems of their own mostly in relation to bowling. The pace bowlers has very expensive in England. Nuwan Pradeep is one of them.

My XI – Steven Smith (Captain), Angelo Mathews (Vice-Captain), Dinesh Chandimal, Rangana Herath, Usman Khawaja, Kusal Mendis, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon, Joe Burns, Dimuth Karunaratne, Stephen O'Keefe
