Mumbai Indians are all set to open the defense of their title against new outfit Rising Pune Supergiants, led by India's World Cup winning skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, The Supergiants, owned by RPSG Group, has thus been granted an opportunity to carve out a niche - guided by the previously successful combine of captain Dhoni and coach Stephen Fleming for CSK. However, with a more settled look and familiar with the conditions at the Wankhede Stadium, described by both MI captain Rohit Sharma and coach Ricky Ponting yesterday as the team's fortress, Supergiants will need to pull out all stops to stop the home side.
· Best economical pick – Jos Buttler the Destructive Wicket Keeper batsman of England had a great WT20 under his belt before coming to IPL. He has scored 191 runs with a strike rate of over 140 in the WT20.
· Top captains & vice captains – The captain of Mumbai Indians Rohit Sharma although had a bad form in recent times. But he is a consistent performer in IPL. Pick him as your captain without any hesitation. For vice-captain Kevin Pietersen will be a good pick. Probably one of the best batsman in this format. A dangerous batsman, Pietersen is also known for his trademark shot, the ‘switch-hit’. A match winner in all formats of the game.
· Smart pick – The West Indian opener Lendl Simmons has been in superb touch in recent times. Played a match winning knock of 82* runs in just 51 balls in his comeback match for West Indies. A solid batsman who can rotate the strike and can hit maximums when team needed.
· Be careful – Hardik Pandya is neither a proper bowler nor a proper batsman. He can be expensive at times and can be got out on duck. So be careful before you pick him in your team.
My XI – Rohit Sharma (Captain), Kevin Pietersen ( Vice-Captain), Jos Buttler, Lendl Simmons, Murugan Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Harbhajan Singh, Ajinkya Rahane, Ambati Rayudu, Faf du Plessis, Irfan Pathan
