India vs Sri Lanka on November 16

The 3-match Test series between India and Sri Lanka is scheduled to begin from 16th November. It promises to be a good series because both the teams have pints to prove and starting a new era. Sri Lanka have to overcome their failures in the recent past and also their historical record to have a chance of winning the Test series or even win a game in India. The Lankan side lost 19 of their last 22 International games including nine out of nine against India at home recently. The Island side is yet to win a Test match on Indian soil and will be looking to end the jinx something teams full of greats from their nation couldn’t achieve. While Team India is oozing with confidence following their ODI and T20I triumph against New Zealand, Sri Lankans had an awful time in the limited overs fixtures against Pakistan. However, the Lankan Lions will be looking to make amends and put up a good show this time around.

·         Best economical pick – In between the tough times for Sri Lanka in all forms of cricket during their perennial transitional phase, one man who has taken up the responsibility of amassing the hard runs is their Test opener Dimuth Karunaratne who has proven to become their batting mainstay off late. He has a good run with the bat in the recently concluded series against Pakistan in the second Test match at Dubai where he slammed 196.

·         Top captains & vice captains – Ravichandran Ashwin’s bowling average of 21.58 against Sri Lanka in Test cricket is the best for any player in India-Sri Lanka Test matches. Ashwin’s SR of 41.16 in IND-SL Tests is also the best for any player. Cheteshwar Pujara impressed one and all by notching two hundreds in the first two Tests of the last test series against Sri Lanka and these days, he tends to score the runs a lot quicker than he did in the past. Pujara scored 309 runs at an average of 77.25 and played a crucial role in helping India get gigantic scores in the first two Tests.

·       Smart pick – Rangana Herath is one of the best spinners operating around the world right now. Recently he led the Sri Lankan spin bowling department and helped the team to a 2-0 victory over Pakistan in the UAE. The old warhorse picked up 16 wickets in the away series against the Pakistani team that is considered to be good players of spin.

·         Cautious Pick – Dilruwan Perera’s bowling average of 190 in Tests against India is the 2nd worst for any player in India-Sri Lanka Test matches. So be careful before trading him in your team.

My XI – C Pujara (Captain), R Ashwin (Vice-Captain), R Herath, D Karunaratne, S Samarawickrama, L Rahul, Suranga Lakmal, Ravindra Jadeja, Niroshan Dickwella, Ajinkya Rahane, Shikhar Dhawan
