West Indies vs India on August 8

India are oozing with confidence after clean-sweeping Windies in the three-match T20I series. All the games were pretty one-sided which showed the level of domination the visiting team had in the shorter format. The Caribbean batters, especially the ones in the top order, didn’t show much responsibility and threw wickets away. They have been guilty of doing so even in the One-Day cricket. It’s now time for the ODI series, which gets underway on August 8 at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. Jason Holder and Co had a poor campaign in the World Cup, beating only Pakistan and Afghanistan. Virat Kohli and his troops bowed out of the same tournament after the semis, but they had a great run in the league stages. In their last meeting, India thrashed the Windies by 125 runs in Manchester.

Best economical pick – The emotions have ebbed and flowed for Rishabh Pant in the T20 series. In the first couple of games, he looked silly when he got out. However, when he got it right, he made it count. Pant scored his maiden T20I fifty as he complemented Virat Kohli beautifully from the other end. He displayed an array of shots as he took India home as he remained unbeaten on 65.

Top captains & vice captains – Rohit Sharma played just two games in the T20 series but looked in great touch once again. Rohit Sharma continued from where he left off in the World Cup as he scored 91 runs in two innings. In fact, he was one of the few batsmen that looked comfortable on a tricky surface in Florida. He was the top-scorer for India in the first two games. The Indian skipper looked good in every game of the T20 series. Virat Kohli was hitting the ball well throughout the series. Kohli was in good touch throughout the World Cup. He scored five half-centuries on the bounce. He finished the T20 series with 106 runs which is the second-most in the series.

Smart pick – Among the most prolific talents to come out of West Indies in recent times is Shai Hope. The wicket-keeping batsman has got the right technique to shine in ODIs. Hope will be the glue that holds the Windies batting order together. He has amassed 2521 runs in 61 matches at a very formidable average of 47.57, and had many starts in the World Cup too, without converting them into bigger scores.

Cautions Pick – Evin Lewis has looked completely out of sort in the T20I series, scoring back-to-back ducks in the first two games. Then scored just 10 runs in the last T20I. He has been out of form since the beginning of World Cup.

My XI – Rohit Sharma (Captain), Virat Kohli (Vice-Captain), Rishabh Pant, Shai Hope, Mohammed Shami, Sheldon Cottrell, Fabian Allen, Roston Chase, Shikhar Dhawan, Jason Holder, Shreyas Iyer
