West Indies vs England on February 22

West Indies vs England ODI series kicked off in style with the visitors taking a 1-0 lead in what was a high-scoring thriller at Bridgetown. West Indies, who batted first, scored a mammoth score of 360 runs thanks to a fine century by Gayle. England who lost the Test series, showed exactly why they are favourites for this year’s World Cup chasing down the big score with more than an over to spare. With a 1-0 lead for England, both teams will now play the second ODI at the same venue on Friday. Although England won the 1st ODI, Windies will take a lot of positives from the match. The hosts were excellent with the bat but would feel disappointed that they couldn’t score more. Wickets tumbled towards the end putting brakes on their run rate. West Indies will also be disappointed with their bowling. After posting a score of 360, they were definitely in the driving seat but lost a good opportunity to take a lead in the series.

Best economical pickChris Gayle marked his return to international Cricket in the way only he knew best. Gayle started off slow playing a remarkable 55 dot-balls, but then switched gears to hit 12 sixes as he scored 135 in the first innings. Gayle is West Indies’ front man in the batting department and could be an impact player in 2nd ODI.

Top captains & vice captains – In what was a batsman’s paradise, England’s mighty batting line-up did exactly what was expected. Led by Jason Roy at the top, England were clinical in their run chase as they chased down the target with an over to spare. Roy has been in great form off late and is a crucial batsman for England in the series. While Jason Roy was responsible for the fire-works, somebody was needed at the other end to stitch a partnership. Joe Root did exactly that as he scored a century too helping England beyond the finish line. Root is also in good form and is a vital member in the England team.

Smart pick – Ben Stokes had a good match on Wednesday. Picking up 3 wickets, he was partly responsible for the West Indies batting collapse towards the end of the innings. He was a constant presence in the team and is a smart pick for your fantasy team.

Cautions Pick – England team looks to be sorted ahead of the World Cup 2019. However, there are one or two positions in the bowling department that are still to be addressed. The team might have missed a trick by not playing Tom Curran in the first ODI. He is coming off a great BBL season and might replace Mark Wood, who went for plenty in the first match.

My XI – Jason Roy (Captain), Joe Root (Vice-Captain), Chris Gayle, Ben Stokes, Eoin Morgan, Adil Rashid, Chris Woakes, Devendra Bishoo, Jos Buttler, Darren Bravo, John Campbell
