West Indies vs England on February 20
England’s tour of West Indies hasn’t been a pleasant one so far. The three-match Test series saw the visitors lose the first two games as the English batsmen had no answer to West Indies’ pace attack. Although they made an impressive comeback in the third match, they lost the series. But with the five-match ODI series beginning on Wednesday, February 20, England has another chance of picking up some momentum as the World Cup approaches. West Indies is a formidable limited overs side and beating them at home won’t be easy. The series promises to be another feisty international affair as two good teams clock horns. With World Cup in the mind for both the teams, England and West Indies have named their strongest squad for the series. The hosts have called up veteran Chris Gayle for the ODI series as warm-up for the intercontinental tournament. England on the other hand are fairly comfortable with the squad, naming a full-strength side for the five match ODI series.
Best economical pick – With an impressive performance in this season’s Big Bash League, Tom Curran has rightfully earned a spot in the England international side. Curran who is a great asset for any side in the limited overs will be England’s wild card and could be an unlikely impact player in the series.
Top captains & vice captains – England has an array of great ODI batsmen and it is often difficult to pick one over the other. Jos Buttler, Jason Roy, Joe Root are all formidable choices, but Jonny Bairstow’s incredible form makes him captain of our Fantasy Cricket team for West Indies vs England 1st ODI. Shai Hope has two centuries and a 43 in his last three ODIs and he carries on his shoulders the hopes of a strong Windies show should this power-packed England line-up post a daunting total. His ODI average of 47.48 is commendable.
Smart pick – Ever since Shimron Hetmyer made an impact in the tour of India last year, the Windies batsman has been simply unstoppable in the limited overs. His technique is remarkable and has become an integral part of the squad. With Gayle on the roster, picking Hetmyer over him hasn’t been easy but his form has made it easier for us to pick.
Cautions Pick – England is quite a dominant side in 50-over cricket. Eoin Morgan is back in the camp along with some other limited-overs specialists. Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow will open the innings. Alex Hales might miss out with Roy-Bairstow doing well at the top of the order.
My XI – Jonny Bairstow (Captain), Shai Hope (Vice-Captain), Tom Curran, Shimron Hetmyer, Adil Rashid, Ashley Nurse, John Campbell, Moeen Ali, Eoin Morgan, Jos Buttler, Chris Gayle
