Punjab vs Mumbai on October 1

Given the way things have gone in the last few matches, the upcoming match between Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians promises to be a cracker of a contest. The two teams are going neck and neck on the points table and a win here will push the winners firmly into the top four. These are still early days in the tournament, but both teams would desperately want to put those two points on the board by posting a win here. On performance and recent results, it is hard to pick between the two sides. On paper, however, Mumbai Indians are clearly the stronger side with match-winners available right through the lineup and an excellent bowling attack. For that reason and the ones stated above, Mumbai Indians certainly are the firm favorites to emerge on top in this all-important fixture.

Best economical pick – Even though Ravi Bishnoi does not have wealth of experience behind him, he has been terrific in the tournament so far. He was difficult to pick even for the likes of Aaron Finch and AB de Villiers when KXIP took on RCB. Besides, the surface heavily favors the leg-spinners, evident by Rashid Khan & Amit Mishra being highly successful in the previous match played here. With conditions conducive to spin, we expect Bishnoi to be King XI Punjab's best bowler on the day.

Top captains & vice captains – Apart from his outing against Delhi Capitals, KL Rahul has looked in fantastic form. Even against Delhi Capitals, he appeared to be batting well before getting castled by Mohit Sharma. In the three matches that Kings XI Punjab have played, he already has a century and a fifty to his name. Even though the surface won't be as easy to bat on as was at Sharjah, KL Rahul shouldn't have much trouble. Given a chance in the last match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Ishan Kishan has grabbed the opportunity in style. He rose up to the occasion and played a dazzling knock of 99 runs which helped his team level a mammoth target of 201 runs. Needless to say, the in-form wicketkeeper-batsman will be hoping to repeat the same feat against Punjab.

Smart pick – While KL Rahul has gathered all the headlines, Mayank Agarwal, so far, has flown under the radar. Agarwal, in fact, has batted as well as KL Rahul, if not better. He is currently second on the list of leading run-scorers in the tournament and we expect him to continue building on the terrific form.

Cautious Pick – Chris Lynn could finally get the nod in this edition of the IPL after Quinton De Kock failed to perform in three consecutive matches.

My XI – KL Rahul (Captain), Ishan Kishan (Vice-Captain), Ravi Bishnoi, Mayank Agarwal, Rohit Sharma, Glenn Maxwell, Trent Boult, Mohammed Shami, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Suryakumar Yadav
