An epic encounter beckons as the Kiwis take on England at the Eden Park in Auckland for the 5th and final T20I, in what promises to be a game for the ages, a finale to the five part reenactment of the spectacle which was the ICC World Cup Final 2019.  With the series level at 2-2 after four hard fought bouts, both teams will know full well that they are very evenly matched and cannot afford to spare any quarter. While the rest of the New Zealand bowling attack was descending into chaos thanks to the exploits of Messrs Morgan and Malan, Santner once more went about his job with nonchalant ease, dismissing both English openers for the second time in four games, and coming out with very respectable figures of 2 for 32 from his four overs. Currently ranked the 5th best T20 bowler in the world, Santner is a bonafide tormentor of batsmen.

Top captains & vice captains – Eoin Morgan played an able supporting hand, scoring a brisk 91 off just 41 deliveries, his best numbers in this high octane format of the game. The flamboyant Irishman did ride his luck at times, getting dropped thrice, including twice off two full-tosses later adjudged to have been over waist high, before finally perishing in the deep during the last over, having set the tide firmly in his team’s favor. Having already struck five half-centuries in his first eight T20I outings, the splendid Dawid Malan bludgeoned his way to an unbeaten knock of a 103 runs off just 51 deliveries in the last match, thus becoming only the second Englishman after Alex Hales to have scored a ton in Twenty20 cricket. It was also the fastest, beating the previous record by 2 full overs. Malan’s boisterous batting coincided with a staggering record third-wicket stand of a 182 runs with his captain which saw the World champions reach a gargantuan total of 241 for a loss of three wickets, their highest total in this version of the game.

Smart pick – One of the finest bowlers of his generation, Trent Boult played his first T20I in over a year and a half on Friday, with the selectors looking to give the fiery Lockie Ferguson some much needed rest ahead of a seemingly likely maiden test cap in the upcoming test series.  A usual picture of consistency, Boult will be expected to brush off the rustiness and spearhead the Kiwi offense in yet another must-win situation against an in-form batting lineup studded with big names and colossal hitters.

Cautions Pick – Colin Munro can take bowling attacks to the cleaners, but he has blown hot and cold in the series. Munro has been fighting with poor form for quite some time now.
