Bangladesh vs West Indies on May 17

Bangladesh has arguably been the most dominant team in the ongoing triangular ODI series. The Mashrafe Mortaza-led unit is the only unbeaten team and hasn’t had to strain in any of their three victories thus far. Their batting, especially the top order has looked ominous and the bowling unit has also stepped up with the likes of Mustafizur Rahman, Abu Jayed and the skipper amongst the wickets. The Final will be a different ball game altogether and the Tigers will play it against the Windies on Friday at The Village in Dublin. In the league stage, Bangladesh got the better of the Caribbean team on two instances and is again deemed to be the favourites in the all-important encounter. The Windies don’t seem to be in great shape with some of their big names not taking part in the tournament. The track at The Village is speculated to be another batting-friendly one. Bowlers won’t get much assistance from the deck. All the three matches in the tournament at the venue were won by the team, batting second.

Best economical pick – My pick would be Sunil Ambris. Ever since Campbell was injured after a fantastic first match, Ambris has stepped up to the opener’s slot and made it count. He played a match-winning innings of 148 off 126 balls to take the Windies home against a fighting Ireland. The fact that he opens the batting is another factor going in his favour.

Top captains & vice captains – I simply have to go with Shai Hope after the form he has displayed in this series so far. 2 centuries by the opening batsman in 3 innings is unbeatable. I also make Hope my captain for this Final encounter. The Bangladeshi opener, Tamim Iqbal walks into my squad as Vice-Captain on the back of a good performance against West Indies where he scored 80 off 116 balls. Tamim opens the batting and can be huge fantasy potential again.

Smart pick – Jason Holder might be a Smart pick for this match. He showed me glimpses of form with the bat in the last match. He has been bowling 10 overs and picking up a few wickets as well. Since budget is not a constraint in this match, I can afford to have Holder at 9.5 credits.

Cautions Pick – A side strain that Shakib Al Hasan sustained in the previous match against Ireland forced him to retire hurt mid-way during his innings. The physio will have a look at the all-rounder on the eve of the match and take a call over his participation in the final. The management may not want to risk him ahead of the World Cup.

My XI – Shai Hope (Captain), Tamim Iqbal (Vice-Captain), Jason Holder, Sunil Ambris, Soumya Sarkar, Mashrafe Mortaza, Mustafizur Rahman, Ashley Nurse, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mohammad Mithun, Mahmudullah
