Bangladesh vs West Indies on December 9

Bangladesh were the dominant side in the Test series as Windies kept searching for breathing space. However, ODI cricket is a different ballgame altogether and the visiting team would be looking to make amends. Nevertheless, their form in the 50-overs format has been contrasting as well. The Tigers recently thumped Zimbabwe in the three-match series after an impressive Asia Cup campaign. The Caribbean team lost 3-1 against India and to add to their agony, they also lost the practice match against BCB XI. The first ODI is scheduled to be played tomorrow at the iconic Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. Both teams have limited cricket ahead of next year’s World Cup and they would be keen to get their combination in place ahead of the mega tournament in England.

Best economical pick – One half of Bangladesh’s opening pair, Tamim Iqbal has been very effective for the Tigers of late. Iqbal has played over 183 ODI matches is one of the experienced players in the squad. Batting first, he adds a lot of depth into Bangladesh’s batting prowess and could exploit the struggling West Indies bowling attack.

Top captains & vice captains – Shimron Hetymer has become the new sensation of the West Indies cricket. In his two ODIs against India, he scored 200 runs with a strike rate of about 140. He is a fearless cricketer who possesses a solid technique which helps him to score runs aggressively in the subcontinent conditions. Hetmyer was highest run-scorer for West Indies in the Test series. The quintessential all-rounder, Bangladesh is lucky to have had someone like Shakib Al-Hasan in the squad for years. Shakib has been a constant pillar of inspiration for the youngsters and continues to perform like he’s still in his peak. He plays according to the game and can pace his innings or spell accordingly. One of the more stable players that you can bank on.

Smart pick – Another player who West Indies can be proud of in the tour against India was Shai Hope. His century almost sneaked a victory for West Indies in the second ODI but followed that up brilliantly with another big knock to help West Indies win the third ODI. Like Hetmyer, even Hop is consistent and can have an impact in the match against Bangladesh.

Cautions Pick – The Bangladeshi opening batsman Imrul Kayes would be under tremendous pressure to perform in this series. The hard-hitting veteran failed to score in the test series.

My XI – Shimron Hetmyer (Captain), Shakib Al Hasan (Vice-Captain), Shai Hope, Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Mashrafe Mortaza, Oshane Thomas, Devendra Bishoo, Fabian Allen, Mohammad Mithun, Mehidy Hasan
