Australia vs South Africa on July 6

Australia have already qualified for the semi-final of the 2019 World Cup. Earlier last month, India defeated them at the Kennington Oval in London. But apart from that, Aaron Finch & Co have simply been unstoppable. The Aussies would be high on confidence after their resounding victory against New Zealand. Australia’s last match is against South Africa at the Old Trafford in Manchester on July 6. A top-of-the-table finish is definitely on the cards and a victory would ensure the same. The Proteas, on the other hand, have nothing to lose and are trying to salvage pride. Faf du Plessis & Co were knocked after their defeat against Pakistan at the Lord’s with two matches left. Last time around, they beat Sri Lanka by nine wickets in Chester-le-Street and would want to bow out on a winning note.

Best economical pickRassie van der Dussen has scored pretty consistently for his team in the middle order. The 30-year-old has racked up 216 runs in eight matches at an average of 54. On a lot of instances, he was waging a lone battle. He has a couple of fifties and has looked comfortable in the middle. Van de Dussen would wish to end his campaign on a positive note.

Top captains & vice captains – David Warner has been exceptional in the World Cup. The left-hander has scored 516 runs in eight matches at an average of 73.71. With three half-centuries and a couple of tons, he has been on a rampage. In the first few games, he was a tad cautious to start with but has come into his own. Faf du Plessis hasn’t been in the best of form in the tournament. He is indeed the leading run-getter for the Proteas with 287 runs at an average of 57.40 but has tended to strain sometimes. In the last match, the veteran scored an unbeaten 96 and showed what he is capable of. With his team out of the World Cup, Du Plessis would be hoping to end with a match-winning knock.

Smart pick – Like his opening partner Warner, Aaron Finch has three fifties and a couple of tons in the mega event. The Aussie skipper has 504 runs in eight matches at an average of 63. He has scored those runs at a strike-rate of 102.43, which shows his fluency. He has also smacked the most number of sixes (18) by an Aussies batter.

Cautions Pick – Australia has got an injury concern for the upcoming game. Glenn Maxwell was hit hard on his forearm in the nets session. While it is a no-brainer that he will make it into the cut if he is fit, Peter Handscomb might be roped in otherwise. Handscomb replaced Shaun Marsh who was ruled out of the tournament.

My XI – David Warner (Captain), Faf du Plessis (Vice-Captain), Aaron Finch, Rassie van der Dussen, Mitchell Starc, Jason Behrendorff, Imran Tahir, Chris Morris, Alex Carey, Quinton de Kock, Usman Khawaja
