West Indies v India on June 23

Team India look well set to take West Indies head on in the first ODI at Antigua on June 23. India coming to this ODI series after being thrashed by Pakistan in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy. India now placed on 3rd position of ICC ODI rankings. They will look to increase their rankings by winning this series. As far as the West Indies are concerned, this series against India carries great importance for them. The series will allow the West Indies to avoid an otherwise awkward qualifying round ahead of the 2019 World Cup. Currently, the West Indies are ranked 9th in the ICC ODI rankings. However, only the top 8 teams will qualify automatically for the main event (they will have to secure their position in the top 8 before a stipulated deadline). The India-series is the last realistic chance for the side to make the cut.

·         Best economical pick – West Indian Spinner Ashley Nurse was the pick of the bowler for West Indies in the last ODI series against Afghanistan where he took 4 wickets in 2 matches and before that series he picked up 6 wickets and scored some important runs down the order in the ODI series against Pakistan.

·       Top captains & vice captains – Shikhar Dhawan was the phenomenal force behind India’s success in the tournament. Dhawan had finished as the winner of the Golden bat last year. He managed to repeat his feat yet again as he ended up as the leading run scorer of the tournament. He scored 338 runs in the 5 matches that he played at an average of 67.60. Indian Skipper Virat Kohli was very consistent in Champions Trophy where he remained unbeaten on 3 occasions in the tournament. He mustered 258 runs in 5 matches at an average of 129 the best average among all batsmen in the tournament.

·       Smart pick – Bhuvaneswar Kumar is effective with the new ball and with the old ball alike. He ended up as India’s leading wicket taker in the tournament and the sixth overall. He finished with 7 wickets to his name in 5 matches. He bowled with an economy rate of 4.63.

·         Cautious Pick – Ravindra Jadeja was the main culprit of India's defeat in the champions Trophy final against Pakistan where he went for 67 runs off 8 overs and ran out inform Hardik Pandya while batting.

·         My XI – Shikhar Dhawan (Captain), Virat Kohli (Vice-Captain), Bhuvaneswar Kumar, Ashley Nurse, Jason Mohammed, Alzarri Joseph, Hardik Pandya, Shai Hope, Rishabh Pant, Kedar Jadhav, Jonathan Carter
