Sri Lanka vs India on August 24

It was an onslaught from Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli at Dambulla which saw India take a 1-0 lead in the series in some style. Whilst Kohli played the second fiddle, Dhawan went after the Sri Lankan bowlers and smashed a stellar hundred to gift India a 9-wicket win with over 21 overs remaining. Sri Lanka's woeful run has continued since their first-round exit in the eight-team Champions Trophy in June followed by an embarrassing 3-2 ODI loss to minnows Zimbabwe at home. The result of the current series apart, Sri Lanka need to win at least two of the five games to gain a direct entry into the 2019 World Cup in England.

·         Best economical pickAxar Patel did a perfect job by bowling superb lines and kept Sri Lankan batsmen quiet. Axar has earned his place in the team and is looking a great prospect for the future. His bowling figures were superb and read 10-0-34-3.

·       Top captains & vice captains – Shikhar Dhawan just continued his brilliant form with the bat and scored yet another century, his third of the tour. His innings was a near flawless and he played some beautiful strokes all around the ground. The southpaw hit 20 fours and 3 colossal maximums on his way to an unbeaten 132 off just 90 deliveries. He was rightfully adjudged Man of the Match for leading his team to such a huge victory. Virat Kohli, along with Shikhar, played superbly again and scored a well-constructed half-century and most importantly finished the game for his side. His innings was studded with 10 fours and a solitary six.

·       Smart pick – Niroshan Dickwella and Danushka Gunathilaka provided a quintessential start to Sri Lanka. Dickwella was the aggressor, who played some delightful shots across the park whilst Gunathilaka was a bit watchful. The partnership soon reached the 50 mark and the hosts were off to a blazing start. Dickwella smashed 64 runs off 74 balls.

·         Cautious Pick – Rohit Sharma completely failed in the Sri Lankan soil. His last seven innings in ODIs in Sri Lanka : 4, 4, 4, 0, 0, 5, 5. He is only the 2nd player after Sanath Jayasuriya to bag single digit scores in 7 consecutive ODI innings on Sri Lankan soil.

My XI –Shikhar Dhawan (Captain), Virat Kohli (Vice-Captain), Niroshan Dickwella, Lokesh Rahul, Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Lakshan Sandakan, Kusal Mendis, Yuzvendra Chahal, Danushka Gunathilaka
