Sri Lanka vs India on August 20
The Sri Lanka Test side had a tough time competing against the No. 1 ranked Indian team in the recently concluded 3-match Test series. The hosts were whitewashed 3-0 for the first time by a visiting nation since the Test series against Australia in 2004. However, the result of the series was pretty much similar to the one expected from a dominant India who have a far better composition when compared to a young and inexperienced Lankan side. The Sri Lanka-India battle will move to the ODI format and the home side will want to put some fight at least in this series. To make a difference, they have brought back the veteran players while India decided to induce young blood and new faces as not more than 5 players who were a part of Test XI will be playing in the ODI series.
· Best economical pick – Hardik Pandya made his Test debut in this series and straight away, he made a great impact for the side. He scored a terrific hundred coming in at number 8 in the third Test and also picked up some crucial wickets whenever the ball was thrown at him.
· Top captains & vice captains – The No.1 ODI batsman at the moment Virat Kohli has not the best test series as a batter by Virat Kohli’s standards, the skipper did fulfil his part in the side. He also scored a terrific hundred in the first Test and helped his side register a mammoth second innings lead. Though he amassed just 151 runs in the series, he will be happy with a fact that he led his side to an emphatic series win. The Player of the Series in the tests Shikhar Dhawan amassed his runs at a staggering pace and he took the onus upon himself to slay the opposition. He notched two hundreds and piled up 358 runs at an average of 89.50 in 4 innings. He will look to continue his for in ODIs also.
· Smart pick – Niroshan Dickwella was fantastic behind the stumps and also added some crucial runs coming in the middle order in the test series. In 3 games, he scored 227 runs at an average of 38 and finished as the second highest run scorer amongst the Islanders.
· Cautious Pick – Left-arm orthodox spinner Malinda Pushpakumara who played in the recently concluded Test series will be making his ODI debut. He was very expensive in the Test Series, so don’t pick him in your squad.
My XI – Virat Kohli (Captain), Shikhar Dhawan (Vice-Captain), Niroshan Dickwella, Lokesh Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Lakshan Sandakan, Kedar Jadhav, Kusal Mendis, Lasith Malinga
