South Africa vs Bangladesh on October 6

South Africa begin their mega home season by thumping Bangladesh in a one-sided encounter in first of the two-match Test series. The visitors never looked settled in the middle during their second innings and were bowled out for a paltry total of 90 and lost the game by a whopping 333 runs. Surprisingly, they succumbed to the left-arm spin of Keshav Maharaj as he scalped 7 wickets in the match. The overcast conditions over the last couple of days did not help the cause of visitors either. Riding high on confidence, the hosts will look at a clean sweep when they take on the visitors in the second Test at Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein on Friday. While the visitors have a lot of to think about after a dismal performance in their outing. However, the Tigers have the skill and temperament to do well in the second test. In the first Test, the Tigers did perform well in the first four days, only to lose the plot in the final day. If they can arrest such a collapse, then we may have a mouth-watering contest on offer.

·         Best economical pickMominul Haque has been terrific in recent times and he showed his class in this test also by scoring a fighting half century in the first innings. He scored 77 runs in the first innings and build a huge partnership with Captain Mushfiqur Rahim.

·         Top captains & vice captains – Dean Elgar missed out on a well-deserved double century by 1 run and was palpably agonized. When a batsman gets dismissed on 99 or 199, people often notice the one run they missed rather than the brilliant knock they played. It was a splendid knock from Dean Elgar, who compiled a breathtaking 199 off 288 balls, which included 15 fours and 3 sixes. Hashim Amla registered his 27th Test match hundred on day 2 and this brought him on level terms with Graeme Smith, who also amassed 27 centuries in his career. Both these legends are currently joint 2nd in the list of highest centuries by a South African in Test match cricket.

·       Smart pick – Bangladesh has few brilliant spinners in Mehidy Hasan and Mahmudullah, but they failed to pick up even a single wicket. The track didn’t provide anything for the spinners, but Keshav Maharaj bowled brilliantly with the softer ball and with the cracks slowly opening, he managed to pick up 7 wickets giving away 117 runs.

·         Cautious Pick – Imrul Kayes has been in and out of the side due to his inconsistency and this test was a big opportunity to prove himself at the helm of the batting order. But he failed again and scored just 39 runs in this test.

My XI – Dean Elgar (Captain), Hashim Amla (Vice-Captain), Mominul Haque, Keshav Maharaj, Mustafizur Rahman, Andile Phehlukwayo, Quinton de Kock, Kagiso Rabada, Temba Bavuma, Sabbir Rahman, Mushfiqur Rahim
