Pakistan v Sri Lanka on October 6

·         Pakistan and Sri Lanka once again square-off in the second and final Test. In what will the sixth day-night Test in the history of international cricket, it will be the first time that the Lankans play a pink ball Test. Sri Lanka emphatically defeated hosts Pakistan as they successfully defended 135 runs to dismiss the home side for 114, winning by 21 runs. After the decimation they suffered against India, this is a welcome change of events for a team that has been struggling. Pakistan should be frustrated for not being able to chase a sub-150 score, regardless of the pitch conditions. They batted well in the first innings, scoring 422, but significantly deteriorated as the game progressed. One Test remains to be played, and Sri Lanka have taken the lead. Can Pakistan level the series, or will Sri Lanka win another away from home?

·         Best economical pick – The Test debutant was the last man to get out. Haris Sohail gave Pakistan a shot in the arms after Sri Lanka fought back with Azhar Ali’s wicket. Sohail scored seven boundaries and 2 sixes and showed that he belongs to this format, as he batted out 161 balls at a strike rate of 47.20.

·         Top captains & vice captains – Rangana Herath turned down the odds to lead his team to a historic six wickets win in the 2nd innings and finished the game with 11. He became only the 14th player in Test history to take 400 wickets with the milestone wicket sealing the game for his team. He is the only left-arm spinner among these 14 players with 400 Test wickets and only the 2nd left-arm bowler after Wasim Akram (414) to achieve this milestone. Talk about brilliant knocks of the year, this one from the willow of Dinesh Chandimal should rank right up there amongst the best. Dinesh Chandimal remained not out on 155 off 372 balls and he was an integral part of two hundred runs stands with Karunaratne and Dickwella, to go with a 92-run stand with Dilruwan Perera.

·         Smart pick – If Pakistan had won the first Test, Yasir Shah’s incredible spell of wrist spin bowling would’ve been lauded as one of the best ever. He absolutely ripped apart the Lankan batters, showing no mercy. For a moment, it was reminiscent of Shane Warne agonizing the English players in the Ashes. He returned with figures of 8/181, but his spell in the second innings was spine chilling and beautiful to the eye.

·       Cautious Pick – Just when people were thinking Pakistan is on the verge of finishing the day well in the first test, Babar Azam got out due to a pure lapse of concentration. He failed in both the innings of first test.

My XI – Rangana Herath (Captain), Dinesh Chandimal (Vice-Captain), Yasir Shah, Haris Sohail, Azhar Ali, Dimuth Karunaratne, Mohammad Abbas, Niroshan Dickwella, Shan Masood, Mohammad Asghar, Sami Aslam
