Pakistan v Sri Lanka on October 13

·         Pakistan will be playing their first ODI since winning their maiden ICC Champions Trophy title as they lock horns with the Sri Lankans in the 5-match ODI series. The home side will be eager to win the limited-overs leg of the tournament after losing in the Test series against the Lankan side, their first home Test series loss in ten years. Sri Lanka, who are coming into this series after a 9-0 tour wash by India will draw a lot of confidence from the Test series victory against the home side.

·         Best economical pick – The off-spinner, Akila Dananjay who managed to raise a lot of eyebrows with his mystery spin. He made his debut at the age of 18 but failed to make his mark in his initial days. But he bamboozled few Indian batters quite comprehensively during the ODI series and he will be looking to continue the same in this series also.

·         Top captains & vice captains – The experience of Shoaib Malik, the most senior player of the side will be a key factor for Pakistan in this series. Before coming to this series Shoaib Malik has a brilliant series against World XI under his belt. He thumped World XI bowlers all around the park in the death overs with a series strike rate of a whopping 188. He also became the highest run-getter in T20Is for Pakistan surpassing Umar Akmal. Shoaib would like to continue his golden run of form in this series as well. Lahiru Thirimanne has been hitting the ball really well since his return. He looked fluent in the last series against India as well following his half century in his comeback game. He needs to anchor the innings throughout and try and break the jinx for his team.

·         Smart pick – Even though he failed totally in the last series against World XI, Fakhar Zaman gets the leverage despite the low scores because, with batsmen like him, destructive innings can be on the cards on his day. If Zaman is able to hold on to his wickets after a calm, yet destructive carnage in the initial overs, the purpose for having him in the team can hardly be questioned.

·       Cautious Pick – After failing miserably in the test series Kusal Mendis is due for a big score as the management continues to mentor him for the future. Mendis though needs to show some maturity now and convert the starts.

My XI – Shoaib Malik (Captain), Lahiru Thirimane (Vice-Captain), Akila Dananjaya,Fakhar Zaman, Niroshan Dickwella, Babar Azam, Hasan Ali, Junaid Khan, Upul Tharanga, Imad Wasim, Milinda Siriwardana
