England vs Pakistan on June 14

England has charged into the semi-finals as the tournament’s only undefeated team, and all three victories have been comfortable. An 87-run shellacking of New Zealand, an eight-wicket win over Bangladesh with nearly three overs to spare and a 40-run Duckworth-Lewis win over Australia. They look ominous. In the other end Pakistan the lowest-ranked team at the start of the tournament, and surely a shock semi-finalist in anyone’s books. A boom or bust team and certainly one with a taste for upsets. Looked like they were in for a rough tournament after a first-up flogging at the hands of archrivals India but Pakistan regrouped beautifully to stun South Africa and open up Group B. That turned Monday’s clash with Sri Lanka into a quarter-final, which they won with 31 balls remaining. It’s been a fairly surprising tournament to date, but even with the amount of upsets tossed up already it’s hard to see anything but an England win here.

·         Best economical pick – Playing just his 2nd ODI Fakhar Zaman took on the new ball bowlers to make an early headway into the chase. Zaman recorded his maiden ODI fifty off just 35 balls to set up the chase for his side. He will be gutted to not convert this knock into a big innings.

·         Top captains & vice captains – The best all-rounder in the world right now is Ben Stokes and he smashed a century to lead England to recovery from 35 for three in pursuit of 278 to defeat Australia. He stayed unbeaten at 102 off 109 balls with 13 fours and 2 sixes. Stokes was adjudged the Man of the Match for his match-winning effort. The England Skipper Eoin Morgan came to bat when his team was struggling at 6/2 which later worsened to 35/3. In the situation of crisis, he stood up and inflicted a counter-attack. Morgan scored 87 off 81 balls with 8 fours and 5 sixes.

·         Smart pick – Junaid Khan has played just two matches, but they’ve delivered two victories. And more importantly, he’s bowled superbly in both taking five wickets at an average of 18.60.

·         Cautious Pick – The England opener Jason Roy has had a poor run in the tournament and in this match as well, he failed to come good. Roy struck the first ball of the innings down the ground for a boundary. But was struck on the pad by Mitchell Starc off the next ball to which the umpire raised his finger and he had to make the long walk back. Roy is averaging a paltry six from three knocks and has faced just 33 balls.

My XI – Ben Stokes (Captain), Eoin Morgan (Vice-Captain), Fakhar Zaman, Junaid Khan, Babar Azam, Liam Plunkett, Hasan Ali, Jos Buttler, Joe Root, Alex Hales, Moeen Ali
