MUM vs KOL on May 19

It is the penultimate match of Indian Premier League 2017, and for one of the team it is going to be the last match of the season. Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders take on each other in the Qualifier 2 of IPL 2017 and the winner will advance to finals to take on Rising Pune Supergiant. Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians finished on top of the points table and then were outplayed by RPS in the first qualifier. They have to defeat Kolkata Knight Riders to book a place in the finals. However, Kolkata Knight Riders have been one of the consistent teams in the tournament and going by their performance in the Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad, the team is playing as a confident unit.

·         Best economical pickUmesh Yadav had a great game returning with figures of 2/21. He got Yuvraj’s wicket at a crucial juncture of the game. Umesh also got the initial breakthrough when he sent Dhawan back.

·         Top captains & vice captains – Gautam Gambhir walked out to bat at No. 4 with his side in all sorts of trouble. He steadied the ship and then cut loose to make sure KKR win the game with 4 balls to spare. His 19-ball 32* was as good an innings he has played this season. He was composed and made sure the job was done with him being out in the center. Nathan Coulter-Nile was the Man of the Match for his 3/20. Coming back from injury in a knockout game is never easy but the Australian was equal to the task. He bowled in the middle overs and picked wickets at the right time to dent SRH’s chances of getting a defending total. His return catch of Chris Jordan was one of the best catches taken this year.

·         Smart pick – Parthiv Patel set the platform for the Mumbai Indians in the run chase as took the attack to the opposition and scored a quick fire 52 runs off 40 balls with three boundaries and three hits over the fence. His knock at the top of the order anchored the innings for the Mumbai Indians but the lack of substantial partnerships in the middle did not help his cause.

·         Cautious Pick – Yusuf Pathan faced just the solitary delivery on which he got run out. Sent in to bat at No. 3, Pathan was hit on the pads by Bhuvneshwar. He wasn’t aware of where the ball had gone and set off for a run before realizing that the ball hadn’t gone too far away from the square. Bhuvi came in and hit the stumps as Pathan was short by a couple of inches and dismissed for a golden duck.

My XI – Gautam Gambhir (Captain), Nathan Coulter-Nile (Vice-Captain), Parthiv Patel, Umesh Yadav, Chris Lynn, Jasprit Bumrah, Krunal Pandya, Sunil Narine, Hardik Pandya, Lendl Simmons
